… is a multi-award winning cultural hub. It has been awarded titles such as best family venue, best independent cultural venue, and best age-friendly venue, so it’s a special venue to say the least! A space with community and culture at it’s heart, they present a vibrant programme of performances and exhibitions providing opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy the arts.
Alongside a creation space, drama studios and children’s play area, sits two performance spaces – the Pentland Theatre and the Studio Theatre. After 17 years of constant use, the seats in these spaces were in need of a bit of TLC and artsdepot came to Race for an expert solution.
The two spaces required two different solutions, both with the expert craftsmanship and quality that Race commit ourselves to. As the larger of the two spaces, the Pentland Theatre, with 400 seats, was to be refurbished with all upholstered elements of the seats to be replaced in an eye-catching, soft red, Camira Mainline Flax.
For the smaller Studio Theatre, a custom Broadway seat was proposed. Sturdy and comfortable, with a compact footprint, the Broadway was the perfect solution for this space. This choice allowed Race to fulfil the need for increased capacity. The chosen fabric, a dark grey Camira Mainline Flax, paired with black gravoply seat numbers and aisle letters, allowed the studio to feel like an intimate performance space. Removable seating options were also included to make the space more flexible, and ensure accessibility for wheelchair users.
Two separate spaces, one big wow-factor! The artsdepot team were thrilled with the new seating and couldn’t wait to open the doors and welcome their community back. The finished project allowed the community using this space to once again sit in style, and enjoy the variety of arts on display from a comfortable, stunning new seat.
